Tuesday night Amarillo police nabbed two after short pursuit.

According to authorities the chase began when officers attempted to pull over a white Ford F-250 pick-up for a traffic violation.  When officers activated their lights the truck bolted.

The pursuit began on SW 9th and Amarillo Blvd.  Officers deployed spike strips to slow the truck down but the driver did not stop.  The driver did stop the truck at the Toot 'N Totum on Gem Lake Road before continuing to evade police until he decided to stop ay SW 9th and Amarillo Blvd.

The driver the exited the truck and according to police he was attempting to cut his neck open with a razor blade while telling police he didn't want to go back to jail.  Inside the truck marijuana was found and the police allege drug paraphernalia was thrown out of the truck during the pursuit.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested.  The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver is facing charges for evading arrest, drugs and traffic violations.  The passenger could potential be charged with tampering with evidence.
