Fatal Accident Possibly Related To Street Racing
A traffic fatality Tuesday night is under investigation by Amarillo police.
Last night 39-year-old Jeremiah Hunter was driving a 2003 Buick four-door south, traveling over the Hughes / Adams overpass at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. He struck the east wall of the overpass and then struck a 2013 Honda Civic traveling north.
Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
The driver of the Honda was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The victim was later airlifted to Lubbock.
Witnesses report Hunter was racing another vehicle. Racing, speed, and the driver not wearing a seat belt all contributed to the fatal crash.
