Medicare recipients in Amarillo are the targets of a new phone scam.

There have been many reports of seniors receiving a phone call from a person claiming to be a representative of Medicare.  They claim they are calling because they need to verify the cardholders information in order to send them a new card.  The perpetrators also claim you need to set up direct deposit to get Medicare funds deposited directly into the recipients bank account.

At least one local woman has fallen victim to the scam.

Medicare will not contact you by phone regarding these issues.  They will only contact you by mail.  If you get one of these calls you are asked to get as much information on the caller as possible and then contact the BBB.  Of course, don't disclose any of your personal information.
