LAREDO, Texas (AP) — A trucker from Missouri has been convicted in a South Texas immigrant smuggling scheme in which six people were found hidden in the cab.

A federal jury in Laredo on Wednesday convicted Miguel Granadeno of Carthage, Mo.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson says Granadeno was convicted of conspiracy to transport and the transportation of undocumented persons. Magidson says evidence showed the six immigrants had entered the U.S. illegally near McAllen.

Granadeno in April was stopped at a checkpoint near Laredo. The six people were found hiding in the cab, including four in a storage compartment under the bed in the sleeper area.

No sentencing date was immediately set for Granadeno, who faces up to 10 years in prison.

Details weren't immediately released on the status of the six immigrants.
