1885 — Charlie Ferguson of the Philadelphia Phillies no-hit the Providence Grays, 1-0. (More info.)

1885 — John L. Sullivan beat Dominick McCaffrey in the seventh round of their heavyweight fight at Chester Park in Cincinnati. (More info.)

1920 — US rower John Kelly, father of actress Grace Kelly, won gold medals in the single and double sculls at the Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. (More info.)
