I've experienced few power issues since relocating to Amarillo almost seven years ago.  I'm always worried we might have them.  It seems like only a year or two ago blackouts were rolling across the country and too close to home.

Our friends over at Pronews7 had a report on the other day that I found rather comforting.

Last summer Xcel added a new power generating plant near Lubbock and soon new lines will run north through to Oklahoma.  The project will be completed by 2014 and should leave our area less vulnerable to power supply problems.

That doesn't mean you should go wantonly powering up all your vampire devices and run the thermostat at 65 degrees.  Actually it is still a good idea to turn up the thermostat when you aren't home and run your power appliances outside of peak demand, or late afternoon evening times.
