Texas Man’s Shark Tale Includes 7-Mile Journey

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A fisherman says he was casting his line from a kayak in the Gulf of Mexico when he hooked a shark that dragged him for miles before he cut loose.

Peter Davis, chief of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, explained authorities began searching for the kayaker Saturday when he went missing. The unidentified man later told them he was a mile from shore when he snagged a blacktip shark that pulled him for as many as seven miles. Davis says the pull of the shark coupled with the strength of the current makes such a journey plausible.

He says the angler could have tossed his rod, but most fishermen loathe giving up expensive gear.

The man paddled back to shore and was found walking back toward his launch area.
