MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Police in Somalia say that unidentified gunmen shot and wounded a Swedish woman and killed her translator in a drive-by shooting outside a university in Mogadishu.

Capt. Ali Hussein, a senior police officer, said that assailants in a car opened fire on the vehicle the woman was travelling in. No group immediately claimed responsibility.

Mohamed Abdullahi, a student at Somalia University, said the Swedish woman had delivered a lecture to students before the attack.

Students at the university gathered near the scene of the attack. Soldiers opened fire to disperse the crowd.

Hussein said the woman, whom he didn't identify, was being treated at a hospital run by African Union forces.

Security in the Somali capital has improved over the last two years but intermittent attacks are still somewhat frequent.
