Shipping Containers Litter The Ocean; 10,000 Per Year Fall In The Drink

You see them everywhere and they are being strewn in areas where you can't see them too.

Shipping containers are pretty fascinating.  Each one has a story to tell of loads delivered, roads traveled and goods held.

But not all shipping containers hold fast to their ships.  There is a surprising number of shipping containers discarded and lost on the ocean floor.  Every year an estimated 10,000 containers fall into the oceans and are lost forever.

Not only are they treasure troves for future pirates the containers provide a useful habitat to ocean life, provided the container isn't holding dangerous chemicals which some do.

Transport companies should be held responsible for recovering as much of these containers as possible before it gets completely out of hand.
