This year WTAMU's budget will take a substantial hit. The budget at the university will be cut by more that $3 million dollars this year. Most of the 8,000 students attending school there will not see their tuition increase.Earlier this year WT officials stated that they were going to increase fees to cover some new University expenses. They now say that the expenses will be covered by trimming travel and utility expenses and eliminating 15 vacant positions.

“I think it’s a very wise approach,” said Gary Byrd, Senate president of WT's faculty “Based on what we’re faced with, I concur with it in that there were some cuts that were necessitated on a very short-term basis.”
