Amarillo police arrested two people for street racing on Sunday.

An officer was driving north on Georgia Street near Southwest 10th around 2:20am Sunday morning when the officer saw a white Nissan Altima and a blue Dodge Neon at the red light.  According to the officer when the light turned green the vehicles began an illegal street race.

The officer caught up to the two vehicles, which had approached 75 miles per hour on Georgia.  The Altima pulled over and the driver, 25-year-old Marcy Christy Salazar was allegedly found to be intoxicated.  She was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Racing on the Highway.  It would be Salazar's second DWI.

The driver of the Neon was identified as 24-year-old Michael Chavez.  He was taken into custody for Racing on the Highway and for three outstanding municipal warrants.

The pair were both booked into Potter County Jail.
