Nobody Hurt In Houston-Area High-Rise Hotel Fire
NASSAU BAY, Texas (AP) — Nobody has been hurt in a Houston-area hotel fire that forced the evacuation of about 300 guests and staff from the 14-story building.
Nassau Bay fire Chief Tom George says the fire was reported before dawn Tuesday at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake. The hotel is near Johnson Space Center.
George says an automatic alarm from a smoke detector summoned emergency personnel to a second-floor laundry room. George says a sprinkler system put out the small fire, reported shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday.
He says guests and Hilton staff were evacuated for about two hours as the smoke dissipated and fire crews restored the sprinkler and elevator systems.
Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze. No damage estimate was released.
A Hilton official didn't immediately comment Tuesday.
