Amarillo officers working a traffic fatality witnessed a second accident, this one a hit and run.
The APD was working a fatal wreck near 9th and Pierce Saturday at around 2am directing traffic, when they witnessed a second accident.
The second involved a Dodge pickup which fled the scene. Police broadcast a description of the truck and it was spotted by an officer near I-40 and Polk. The officer followed the vehicle as it sped through streets. Eventually the truck lost a front tire and had to stop in the parking lot at the 8200 block of Amarillo Boulevard.
The driver appeared to be intoxicated. 41-year-old William Marvin Kirk was booked into Potter County for driving while intoxicated, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
