A 29-year-old Amarillo man seemingly attempted to break as many laws as possible in a failed attempt at avoiding incarceration early Monday morning.

Just after 1:00am Amarillo police respond to the 100 block of North Prospect on a report of a domestic disturbance.  The first officer to arrive parked and waited for backup before interacting with the residence.  While he was waiting, two occupants of the residence left the house and left in a dark colored Acura.  The officer, believing the pair to be a part of the domestic issue began to follow the vehicle.

The vehicle committed a traffic violation and the officer attempted to stop the vehicle.  The Acura then sped away in an attempt to elude the officer.  The car eventually lost control and spun out, striking a fence at 301 South Alabama.  The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

After jumping several fences the officer caught up with the suspect.  After a failed attempt to tase the suspect the officer utilized pepper spray to subdue the suspect and take him into custody.  The driver was allegedly found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.

The driver, Michael Scott Velasquez, 29 of Amarillo was booked into Potter County on various charges.
