A condition known as Fifth Disease is being passed among area school children.

Dozens of children have been treated for the disease locally.  Medical professionals admit that the condition is highly contagious but it isn't a major illness.

Affected children eventually develop a rash.  The children are contagious until they reach the rash stage.

Some symptoms include a low grade fever, perhaps a sore throat, cough and runny nose.

While the disease is not serious for children it can impact expecting mothers should they contract the disease.
