Get your shovels and hand warmers ready. Winter is coming!

For over 200 years, people have used the Farmers' Almanac to know the best times to plant crops, cut their hair, and many other different things. But what Farmers' Almanac is most known for is predicting the weather. And as you know, in the Panhandle, that is no easy task, but they have proven time and time again to be pretty spot on!

The Farmers' Almanac came out with their Long Range Forecast for winter 2016. It looks like Amarillo and the High Plains are going to have a wet winter. The Almanac says, "Winter will be colder than normal, with slightly above-normal precipitation and near-normal snow fall."

The coldest temperatures of winter 2016 will be in early and late December and early and late January. However, the Almanac is predicting that the snowiest period will be in late November and mid-December and possibly mid- to late-February.
