DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police fatally shot a resident of a high-rise apartment complex after he opened fire on officers responding to a burglary call.

Police say the man was killed early Thursday in the Uptown neighborhood. No officers were hurt during the gunfire that shattered lobby windows of the luxury Glass House residences.

Deputy police Chief Gil Garza says the resident told a building employee that his apartment was being burglarized. The worker called police. Authorities say the resident then barricaded himself in a hallway near the lobby until officers arrived.

Police are trying to determine why the resident shot at officers, who then returned fire. Garza says a weapon the man apparently used has been recovered.

The name of the man who died and further details weren't immediately released.
