Going off to college can be a difficult time for anyone.  But society has made it even more frightening for females with the threat of date rape drugs.  Unfortunately, it is a reality.  A group of young men at North Carolina State University want to change that.

According to the CDC, 18 percent of American women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.  Four young men in the research department of NCSU created a company called Undercover Colors.  They are developing a line of nail polishes that can detect certain date rape drugs like Rohypnol, Xanax or GHB.

The concept is pretty amazing.  All you have to do is put your finger (with the nail polish) into the drink and swirl.  If the nail polish detects one of the date rape drugs, the nail polish will change color.  The men who created it say that it isn't only to protect the women and to "make potential perpetrators afraid to spike a woman's drink because there's now a risk that they can get caught."

The nail polish is still under development so there is no word when it will be available.  Undercover Colors are currently looking for funding and if you are interested in helping, you can go here.  Would you use it?
