The revitalization of downtown Amarillo has been in the works for some time and now City planners and the city council are looking to update some of the language in the standards laid out in a document first drafted in 1999.

Center City Inc., drafted the original document which laid out the standards for design downtown.  The city council approved those standards in 2010.

Some of the updated standards includes walkway improvements, street trees and better lighting.  There is also a desire to put a bigger focus on historical buildings downtown and their renovation.

All the efforts have the overall goal of encouraging more development downtown.
