If you’re unsure what bestiality is, the PG-13 version would say, bestiality is people engaging in sexual activities with animals.

Hard to believe but it’s a common occurrence in every town, city, and county. Amarillo is taking a stand to make the offense a Class C misdemeanor.

According to the Amarillo Globe-News, Richard Havens – Director of The Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare said, there have been multiple cases in the last 18 months of animals coming to the shelter with signs of sexual abuse.

“I know it’s an uncomfortable topic, but it’s something that should be addressed. It’s unacceptable and we need to understand that it’s out there,” Havens said.

Without a state law, this type of act can continue without any consequences for the offender. Texas is one of 14 states that does not have any punishment for bestiality. Furthermore, from the Globe-News:

“If we have an animal come in and it has wounds consistent with what we suspect is bestiality, we can’t prosecute them. There’s no reason for us to put resources into an investigation if there’s nothing we can do,” Havens said.

Richard Havens wants to focus on Amarillo and putting an end to the bestiality cases that are arising.
