Amtrak Possibly Coming To Amarillo

There have been some discussions to bring Amtrak to Amarillo.

Amarillo is considering making a $2.6 million purchase of the Santa Fe Depot located downtown.  The facility covers six acres.

Amtrak is asking New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas to pay $100 million over 10 years to upgrade old track, plus another $10 million per year for maintenance.  If those states refuse to provide those funds the line will likely move to the panhandle.

The city will discuss the potential purchase of the depot at the weekly city commissioners meeting.
