First Ruby Tequila's, then Midnight Rodeo and now Amarillo's brush sites are now closed.

It was a good run while it lasted but the four brush sites in the city, where residents have taken their tree, shrub, and lawn trimmings for some time are now closed.  Residents are now asked to take that stuff to the landfill at 16250 Benzer Road.  It’s a bit of a drive.

The closings have been discussed at five community meetings where city staff allowed the public to give their opinion on whether the sites should have remained open.

Along with changes to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules and regulations, encroachment of the city on the sites, equipment travel and transport, illegal dumping, commercial dumping, fire potential, and permit issues all conspired to force the city’s hand in closing the sites.

The compost facility at the landfill is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 5pm through October.  November through March the facility will close at 5pm.
