Navy Seaman Apprentice Colten Landrum, an Amarillo native, is currently serving as a culinary specialist aboard the USS Mason.

A graduate of Randall High School in 2017, Landrum credits lessons learned in Amarillo with helping prepare him for his duties in the Navy in an article with the Navy Office of Community Outreach.

Back home I was always taught to earn an honest living and in the Navy, I believe I'm doing that while enjoying my job

Landrum is responsible for preparing, serving, and planning the meals for over 300 sailors every single day.

The USS Mason is a guided-missile destroyer, and one of the Navy's most advanced warships. Landrum spoke to the Navy Office of Community Outreach about working aboard the Mason:

Being on a destroyer is really cool...It's a battleship with guns. I had the opportunity to witness the firing of a five-inch gun first-hand.

Landrum is proud of his work in the Navy, and we are proud of him.
