According to the FBI crime reports show Amarillo to be among the top 10 most dangerous cities in Texas.

The data comes from 2014 crime statistics per 100,000 citizens.  Nine categories are recognized by the report; violent crime, murder, rape, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft.

Amarillo ranks 5th on the list.

The following includes the 2014 crime statistics per 100,000 citizens for the city of Amarillo:

  • Violent Crime: 559.8
  • Murder and Nonnegligent Manslaughter: 3.8
  • Rape: 97.5 (Amarillo had the 3rd highest rate of rape in the country according to the FBI statistics)
  • Robbery: 110.5
  • Aggravated Assault: 348
  • Property Crime: 3,838.9
  • Burglary: 764
  • Larceny-Theft: 2729.2
  • Motor Vehicle Theft: 345.7
