Amarillo Area Heatwave & Drought Continues

The Amarillo area has been suffering from a drought since last year having received only .68 inches of water this year. Now, top that with a crippling heat wave and you can honestly say, the best thing that you can do is stay inside next to a nice cool air conditioner. Temperatures are to top 105 degrees today in Amarillo and that is hot enough to cause real problems, especially for children and the elderly.

Don't let yourself be fooled, these temperatures can send your children and grandparents to the hospital. Even family pets should be monitored to make sure that they have plenty of water and during the hottest part of the day, bring them inside if you can.

The hotter the temperature, the higher the fire danger as well and we all know how dangerous that can be. So, please be mindful of where your cigarette butts go and take precautions when cooking out.
