Amarillo police were called to 310 North Virgina just before lunch yesterday on a report of an aggressive dog.

The dog had threatened a juvenile female earlier in the day.  Later the pit bull jumped it's fence and bit a 30-year-old man that was passing by.

The first officer to arrive on the scene was an Amarillo police motorcycle officer.  The the dog attempted to jump over the three foot fence to attack the officer.  The officer shot the dog.  The dog fell back but attempted a second time to get over the fence and at the officer, who then shot the dog again.  The pit bull then retreated to his dog house. The dog died shortly later.

Officers found a similar dog in the house that wasn't aggressive.  Animal Management and Welfare took possession of the dog.

As with any shooting incident with the Amarillo police department's Internal Affairs Investigator is investigating the incident.
