For the first time in school history, the No. 5 West Texas A&M baseball team was awarded the top-seed and will host the 2018 NCAA Division II South Central Region Baseball Championship, May 17-20 at Wilder Park.

The Buffs are a school-record 39-12 overall and were runner-up in the Lone Star Conference Championship this past weekend, also at Wilder Park.  Colorado Mesa, winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season and tournament, is the No. 2-seed, followed by St. Edward's, who won the Heartland Conference Tournament.

No. 4-seed Colorado School of Mines finished runner-up in the RMAC Tournament and is making its first appearance in the regional in school history, while Texas A&M-Kingsville is the No. 5-seed and Tarleton State, who won the LSC Championship over WT is the No. 6-seed and the Buffs' foe in the first round on Thursday.

WT won its first outright Lone Star Conference regular season title this season with a 20-4 mark in league play.  Colorado Mesa enters with a 40-14 record overall, while St. Edward's is 33-19.  Colorado School of Mines is 35-16, Texas A&M-Kingsville is 37-14 and Tarleton State is 35-15.
