Junior Mitch Hood has won the starting job over last year’s starter Justin Houghtaling.

Hood is a 6-5, 200 pounder California native, who transferred to WT from Mississippi State and Hughes said that experience is evident.

“He’s just got some poise. He’s making the right reads, he’s doing what we want him to do by not forcing the ball”, Hughes said. “He gets the ball out on time where the receivers have the ability to catch it and make plays. That’s what has kind of set him apart.”

Houghtaling played and started nine games under center for the Buffs last year.  He completed 85 of 180 passes with four touchdowns and nine interceptions, for 1160 yards and a 128.9 average per game.

The Buffaloes open their season this Saturday night on the road at Asuza Pacific. Fans can listen to the game on Townsquare Media station Lone Star 98.7 FM.
