2016 was a beast of a year. On top of a lot of changes in my personal and work life, plus the unexpected death of a family member; it was the year that my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I never understood why these walks meant so much to so many. Not until 2016.

While walks and 5k's are "en vogue" for just about anything you can imagine, these walks are about beating odds, surviving, and having hope for the future. At least that's what I saw from a distance as my parents dealt with the diagnosis.

They're also about remembering those who aren't there to walk.

The 2019 Komen Amarillo More Than Pink Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sep. 28th. According to the website, it will be downtown at ANB on Polk.

The funds raised from this walk, and walks like it, go to more than research...as I found out. They also go towards treatment, helping patients get transportation to and from appointments, childcare for patients; they go to help survivors and caregivers, and so much more.

The thing I never understood, was how a diagnosis really does affect every single aspect of your day-to-day life.

Take a stand alongside survivors, care givers, family members, and those that are on their journey on Sep. 28th. You can get more information by going to the walk's website here.
