Ever wondered what life looked like in Amarillo in the early 1960's? Just as tourism is important to any community, perusing large business to relocate to cities and communities is usually a major priority as well. It means more jobs, more money, well, you get the picture. If you search Youtube, you will find a number of videos just dedicated to attracting businesses to move into towns all across America. This was especially true in the 1950's and 1960's as America returned to normal after World War II. Amarillo was a city actively looking to bring more business and industry to the Texas panhandle, and the video above shows just that! The video is about 16 minutes long and was produced by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and Southwest Public Service Company to attract more companies to our area.

Historic highlights of the video include TWA and Braniff airlines at the old English Field airport terminal, Lake Meredith dam under construction, the Amarillo College campus, WT's campus, Amarillo's Little Theater, the plans for Pioneer Theater in Palo Duro Canyon, the former Sunset Center shopping area, the Potter County baseball stadium during a ballgame, the Helium Research Center and plant, Amarillo Air Force Base with B52 bombers, lots of agriculture, and shots of downtown Amarillo.
