KWTX reported that a middle school student died in a horrific crash in East Texas on Friday.

The middle school student was involved in a crash that involved a Union Pacific train hit a school bus attempting to cross a railroad crossing in Athens, Texas.

Athens Independent School District said, "A second student, a girl who attends Central Athens Elementary School, was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Dallas."

The driver of the bus was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The Athens Independent School District is asking for everyone to send their prayers out to all families involved in this horrific event.

No other students were on the bus when the crash happened, and the crash took place after 4:00 p.m. at the Murchison Street crossing in Athens.
