A major flu epidemic is raging nationwide.  Even though our area is somewhat isolated we are not immune to the outbreak.

The CDC is reporting widespread flu in 41 states.  Texas is in the top five of the affected states.

The Department of Public Health in Amarillo has reported over 300 positive tests for flu during the week of Christmas.  According to some reports the flu kills between 30,000-40,000 people every year.  Flu season can run as late as May, with the peak January through February.

The best way to avoid contracting the flu is to get vaccinated.  If you haven't already taken the shot, it isn't too late to take steps to prevent becoming another statistic of this season's nationwide epidemic.
