One of the first things I did when I got to Amarillo and started exploring, was visit the art walk. If you've never been to one, this Friday is your last chance.

This Friday, August 2, will be the final First Friday Art Walk at Arts in the Sunset. The event starts at 5pm and goes until 9pm at 3701 Plains Blvd.

According to some reports, there are plans to demolish portions of the building. The future of the First Friday Art Walk remains somewhat uncertain.

There have been talks about continuing the walk, just in a different location. That new location remains to be unveiled.

When the news came out in May that Arts in the Sunset would be closing, it was met with shock and some outrage. The choice to close wasn't an easy one, and it was made due to financial troubles. Also, trying to get non-profit status is hard, apparently, if you're renting out a ton of space to individual galleries.

Early reports did state that the art school would stay open.

I was shocked when I went to the art walk. There was so much to see, and no two galleries were alike.

If you're looking for a relaxing start to the weekend, I can't recommend the Art Walk enough.
