The Case May Finally Be Closed On 56-Year-Old Texas Murder

John Feit, formerly of McAllen, Texas, has been arrested for the murder of a young lady that happened in the 1960's.

Feit was the last person to see 25-year-old Irene Garza on Easter in 1960 before she disappeared. Five days later, her body was found in a canal.

The most chilling aspect of the crime is that Feit had seen Garza because he was a Catholic priest who heard her confession that evening. He denied any involvement, claiming that Garza had left Sacred Heart Catholic Church alive.

According to the autopsy, Garza had been put into a coma, raped, and killed by suffocation.

A camera belonging to Feit and a candelabra from the church were found at the crime scene. He had also been arrested for attacking a different woman in a nearby town just 24 days before the murder. Despite this evidence, Feit was not charged with the murder at the time.

However, in 2004, after the case was reinvigorated by new detectives and met with years of delay, a grand jury saw the case and chose not to indict Feit.

Feit was finally arrested for the murder on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016. He awaits extradition from Hidalgo County, Arizona, where he was residing.
