Temple police have requested the assistance of the Texas Rangers to conduct an internal investigation of an officer facing criminal allegations.

In a press release issued Tuesday evening, Temple Police Department Media Relations Specialist Ellen Morton wrote, "On Saturday, November 17, 2018, the Temple Police Department was informed of criminal allegations against a member of the Temple Police Department. Upon notification, the identified member was immediately placed on paid investigatory leave and had all physical and remote access to the Department and its records management systems restricted."

Morton did not reveal the name of the officer or the nature of the allegations. She wrote that the department has requested that Texas Rangers lead the investigation with support from Temple PD.

We reached out to the Texas Rangers for comment and were awaiting a reply Tuesday evening. This article will be updated with any new information obtained.
