Mars is in the news these days thanks to the Curiosity rover which recently landed on the red planet. The goal of the six-wheeled robot is to find signs of life on Mars, and NASA also hopes that its 23 month mission will increase public awareness of the space program. But will it rekindle interest in sending a manned mission to Mars?

After an eight month journey, NASA’s multi-billion dollar rover Curiosity made a successful landing on Mars early this morning. Mission controllers cheered after the six-wheeled, one-ton machine made a perilous seven-minute landing involving a parachute, rocket pack and sky crane.

New Yorkers who looked up into the sky on Friday were treated to something simply amazing. The Space Shuttle Enterprise rocketed past such iconic New York City landmarks as the Statue of Liberty and One World Trade Center before coming in for a landing at JFK airport. Luckily, photographers caught the close encounter.

I'm all for a good conspiracy theory, so I hope I can get some good feedback in the comments below.

We've been space for over forty years but NASA was totally unprepared for a recent finding.  Long term stints in space may cause damage to astronaut's eyesight.

Laser pointers are a lot of fun, provided you don't point it in an eye or try to hit a overflying airplane.  But hitting the International Space Station is 100% OK, provided you communicate your intentions to an astronaut.

Roger Boisjoly is not a common household name.  He died a few weeks ago.  He was racked with guilt at his failure in 1986 to prevent the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

Lots of little kids dream about becoming astronauts — and for some lucky grown-ups, those dreams could become a reality. NASA recently concluded an open call for civilians to apply for a spot in the next astronaut class.
