With all of the recent controversy surrounding our nation’s obesity problem, as well as the proposed ban to restrict the size of sugary drinks, there should be no gasp factor in learning that nearly half of adults in the United States indulge in soda everyday.

A recent Gallup poll measuring soda consumption has discovered that 48 percent of adults in the US admit to enjoying at least one glass of soda a day.

The survey found that out of those people who consumed soda on a daily basis most drank an average of nearly three glasses a day.

Drinking sodas was more prevalent in the young adult demographic, with nearly 60 percent between the ages of 18 and 34 reporting consumption of at least one glass per day, compared to about 50 percent of the older kids between the ages of 35 and 54.

However, even with soda consumption being linked to health problems like obesity and type 2 diabetes, the survey did not uncover any significant difference in the weight of those who claimed to consume soda as opposed to those who did not.

It is worth noting that while soda consumption among Americans is high, it is isn’t as high as coffee consumption. Sixty-four percent of adults still get their fill of Columbian goodness with at least one cup a day, which has not fluctuated much since 1999.

One way or another America we are going to get our fix of sugar and caffeine, and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon.
