The Air Hogs may not be coming back but baseball may return in 2017.

Although it isn't the major league affiliated team the city is hoping for it's still minor league baseball and more importantly it's a tenant for Memorial Stadium.

The Pecos League is currently in negotiations with Potter County to sub-lease the stadium from the American Association.  Before the deal is signed a plan has to be formulated that would include needed changes to the stadium.

Most prominently changes to the playing surface are needed to bring the field up to Pecos League standards.  It is expected the league would need to invest $50,000 in stadium upgrades.

The team is also considering West Texas A&M University's baseball field but the preference is Amarillo.

The Pecos League has been trying to put a team in Amarillo since they launched five years ago.  They almost came in 2011 but the Amarillo Sox held the lease at that time.

The team will be called The Amarillo Train Robbers and if the deal is signed would play half of a 70 game schedule at home.
