Monday morning Amarillo Police responded to reports of shooting in the 6100 block of Southwest 45th.

A woman reported her ex-boyfriend shoot at her through her car door.  She was not injured.  Police went to the 4200 block of Andrews seeking the suspect.  The suspect began firing on the officers before the could initiate contact.  The officers withdrew and called SWAT.

The SWAT team deployed the bomb team robot in an attempt to initiate contact and negotiations with the suspect.  He did not respond.  The robot was used to break a window in the home and with the camera the authorities were able to observe the suspect deceased inside the home.

SWAT entered the home and attempted life saving measures but they were in vain.  The suspect died of an self inflicted gunshot wound.

The standoff saw Western Street blocked in both directions from Olsen to 34th for an extended period before lunch.  Businesses and homes in the area were also evacuated.
