Spring Break is coming up in a few weeks and if you are staying in town, don't forget you can have a blast right here in Amarillo.  So many wonderful activities will be happening over Spring Break week.

The Discovery Center is great about having fun activities during Spring Break.  The dedicate each day to something different.

March 13 to 17- Spring Break Spectacular: A Week of Sciences! – 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Daily

Monday: Astronomy Day - learn how to make clouds, size up our solar system, imagine life on other planets and more!

Tuesday: Pi Day –Come and eat free pie on 3.14 at 1:59 while you enjoy our live demonstrations.

Wednesday: Zoology Day- Explore animals with Wild Cat Bluff and the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and learn how to help our critter friends when they are in trouble. Rehab Center – 10:30-2:00, Wild cat- noon-4.

Thursday: Biology Day- Come and help out friends in need by donating the gift of life with Coffee Memorial. You can also test your fears by dissecting a cow eye along with other biology activities. Coffee Memorial – 12:30-4:30.

Friday: Physics Day- Come and test your fears by letting a bowling ball swing by your face or laying on our bed of nails!  You can also take a ride on DHDC’s hover board and craft your own to take home.

All Spring Break activities are included in admission price. Plus enjoy the Space Theater and all exhibits.


Monday, March 13th is all about the Slimy, Scaly, Creepy, Crawly

The kids will get up close with reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates and will get explore their habitats, what they eat and how they defend themselves

Tuesday, March 14th – Jaws and Claws

The kids will learn about predators and prey.  It includes learning about how lions hunt and take down big prey.  They will also learn how smaller animals avoid becoming food for bigger animals.

Wednesday, March 15th – Animal Play Day

You kids will learn about how animals have fun.  They will learn what they do to keep themselves busy and how they entertain themselves.

Thursday, March 16th – Zoo Chefs

The kids get to be come a chef and learn all about how to make a healthy balanced meal for the animals.  They will learn about what the animals eat and even get to help prepare a meal for some of the zoo animals.

Friday, March 17th – Texas WILDS

Learn all about the Great Plains animals that have a home at the zoo.

The Zoo Spring Break Camp is open to children ages 7-12Cost is $150 for the week.

Extended care is available for and extra $25 for before or after or $50 for both.

Registration is required for the camps by March 10th at 5pm.  Only 15 spots are available so sign your kids up today.


The museum does not have any specific activities going on for Spring Break however they will be open if you are looking for some fun activities to do with your kids.

They are open Tuesday-Saturday 9am-5pm

Take the kids out to PDC and enjoy nature.  Enjoy a hike up to the lighthouse or their many other trails, or plan a few days and camp out under the stars.  Take a picnic with you and enjoy the backdrop of the canyon as you eat.

Admission:

$5 per adult

Kids 12 and under get in for free.

Campsites start off at $12 and up and increase depending on the size and area of the campsite.


Who doesn’t want to swim on their Spring Break. Unfortunately the weather isn’t quite warm enough for the swimming pools to be open. However, when you have an indoor pool with a river and cool slides, it’s summertime all year round.

Make time to take the kids to swim on the WT Campus. The pool is located in the Virgil Henson Activities Center


The library always has some fun things going on. With different branches all over the city you’ll be able to find some fun activities for the kids at the library on Spring Break.

The great thing about the library it’s not just about books.

PAPER CRAFTING: Paper Lights and Lamps
Learn how to use LED lighting to make origami creations glow.  Watch a basic lamp wiring demonstration and fold a paper votive candle holder.  For ages 12 and older.

Tuesday, March 14 at 1 PM – Downtown Library – 413 SE 4th
SPY TRAINING:  SPY KIDS MOVIE!
Join us for a this fun movie about a family of super-spies starring Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara.  Doors open at 12:45 and the show starts at 1 PM.  Spy Kids is rated PG and runs 98 minutes.

If you have stuff to sell or you love to shop then come on out to Amarillo’s Largest Garage Sale. If you get a booth you can help the kids learn how to sell and how to handle money. Or if they love to shop and find bargains bring them out and shop. Either way it’s a fun activity you can do during Spring Break
