A burger in Buffalo Gap, Texas, impressed Food & Wine so much that they named it one of the best in the country.

The Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap started as the dream of a young boy on a ranch in rural Texas. Tom Perini decided to start serving 'cowboy cuisine' from the back of a chuck wagon in 1973. Once he had taken this step, the next step seemed only natural - to open up his own restaurant.

The restaurant is on the Perini Ranch in Buffalo Gap, a small town south of Abilene. Despite the rural location, Perini Ranch Steakhouse has gotten plenty of attention from outsiders. Tom Perini has been featured on the cover of Texas Monthly and cooked for the Congressional Picnic when George W. Bush was in office. Perini has also traveled around the world to promote U.S. beef.

It's no surprise that the popular cuisine of the Perini Ranch Steakhouse got the attention of Food & Wine. The ranch burger, a specialty of the restaurant, was so delectable that it made the list for best burgers in the country. Buffalo Gap was featured up there with the best places in New York, California, and Tennessee.

The ranch burger is topped with onions, mushrooms, green chile, and your choice of cheddar or provolone cheese.
