The show that boldly tries to bring buyers and sellers together was at it again on Saturday.

It's want ads on the radio and you are invited to call in your listing every Saturday.  It runs from 9am-12pm and you always have an open invitation to participate or you can kick back and take in the shenanigans.  We try to make it just as fun to listen as it is to call in.

THE BIG QUESTION

We ask all our callers a poll question before they give their items.  It's an effort both to better get to know you and to provide a running stream of thought throughout the show..

We just started April and over the last week 2016 in the area got a lot less entertaining.  First we were given news that Homer's Backyard Ball is taking a year off to focus on several fundraising events over the next year, carrying the "Homer's" brand.  Then we found out that due to illness, the people behind Amazing Fun Farms and the cornfield maze would be unable to plant the corn.  Without the corn you got no maze.  And perhaps the biggest blow for the most people, Center City announced that due to construction downtown there would be no Center City Block Party in 2016.

That's a lot of fun that just got cancelled and many are dismayed for one event or another.  It got me to wondering which event cancellation affected our callers the most and that was this week's Big Question.

Which will you miss the most, Homer's Backyard Ball, The Center City Block Party, or Amazing Fun Farms Corn Maze?

Homer's: 4

Block Party 8

Corn Maze 19

I anticipated the corn maze to be the most missed my our callers.  Homer's draws a decidedly college crowd and the block party seems to be a little wild for the average Trade-A-Thon caller.  The corn maze on the other hand got votes as the only family friendly event and got votes by default as some struggled to make an answer due to never participating in any of those events.

RULE #6

At the beginning of each hour I always bring you the official rules of conduct on the program.  That way everyone knows how it works and there are no issues.  Along with the five regular rules of the program I always bring you a special Rule #6.  It changes every week and is inspired by something that happened to me, something I saw, or something taken straight from the news.

This week the big news was the cancellation of those three big events locally.  One of them, the Center City Block Party was especially notable.  Mainly because Center City has announced instead of the Block Party they will host an Arts Festival.

I'm a lover of the arts just as much as the next person.  However presenting me an Arts Festival in lieu of a Block Party doesn't seem like an equitable trade.  I don't think the block party crowd has much in common with the artful crowd.

It inspired this week's rule.

Rule #6: You can't replace lowbrow with highbrow.

We look forward to hearing from you this Saturday for another Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon!
