When Jim Hopkins realized his house was engulfed in a serious blaze early one morning, he instinctively jumped out of his second story window.

But when the 81-year old Sibly, MO man hit the ground, he realized he had two big problems. First, he had broken his leg in the fall. And, more importantly, his wife was still in the home.

To make matters worse, Bertha Hodkins suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease. So Jim did the only thing he could. He crawled back into the burning home and dragged his wife to safety.

The fire ultimately gutted the house, but at least his wife was safe. Jim and Bertha were both taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and are both expected to make a full recovery. Learn more about this heroic tale below.
