Door To Door Scammers In Amarillo

The Amarillo Police department wants residents to be aware of a door to door scam making the rounds in the city.

The scammers target homes that display a burglar alarm company sign in their yard.  The scammers knock on the door and claim to be from the alarm company and that the customer needs upgrades.  Other times they will claim the alarm company the resident has currently has been bought out by a new owner and new equipment needs to be installed.

Police are unsure exactly what the scammer's motive is although it is obviously disturbing.

The city reminds all residents that door to door solicitors must be permitted by the city.  If a door to door salesman knocks on your door be sure to ask for their full page blue permit with matching identification.
