DALLAS (AP) — Emergency personnel in Dallas have safely rescued a stray puppy possibly stuck for days in a storm drain.

Crews on Monday afternoon lured the puppy into a cage that was baited with food and hauled the animal to safety on a cold, rainy day.

City workers put a small camera down the drain after people nearby reported hearing barks as a mother dog paced near the drain.

Officials believe the puppy was part of a litter born a few weeks ago near a school. Some teachers and students knew of the dogs and a few days ago began hearing yelping from the drain.

The rescued terrier was taken to a Dallas Animal Services facility for eventual adoption. Officials will try to locate the rest of the litter for possible adoption.
