The grandmother and stepmother that punished a 9-year-old girl by forcing her to run for three hours have been charged with murder.

On Friday in Attalla, Alabama Savannah Hardin ate some candy bars and lied to her grandmother about eating them.  As punishment she was forced to run.  Three hours later she was allowed to stop.  Severely dehydrated, the girl had a seizure and died days later. A state pathologist ruled it a homicide.

Some witnesses saw the girl running and didn't perceive anything to be wrong.  Others felt something was amiss and alerted the sheriff.  It is not known what action was taken when they responded.
