Burglaries On The Rise in Amarillo

Burglaries are up in Amarillo for 2012 and as the holiday season rolls on the numbers are expected to increase.

Last year there were 1,394 burglaries reported in the city, this year the number has risen to 1,589.  And there is still over two weeks left in the year.

Many of the burglaries begin when someone will knock on the door.  If no one answers they then go to the back of the house and kick in the back door to gain access to the house.  As much is taken that be taken quickly in most instances.  Unfortunately police believe most of these burglaries are drug related with the stolen items being pawned or fenced illegally to obtain money for drugs.
