The Potter County Sheriff would like to outfit its deputies with body cameras.

The Potter County Sheriff's office is seeking a grant from the Governor's Criminal Justice Division for body worn cameras.  The preliminary process has been completed.  A resolution to match 25% of the grant was approved by County Commissioners.

If the governor's grant is approved it would mean 30 body worn cameras would be given to Potter County, free.  However it is estimated the yearly cost for storage and software rights fees is around $35,000.

The yearly costs will have to be approved during the upcoming budget process for the county.

Potter County is trying to be proactive in obtaining the cameras as it is widely expected the body cameras will soon be required as standard equipment by the state.
