A pizza delivery driver was carjacked at gunpoint just before 8pm on Friday.

Amarillo police responded to a call in the 800 block of Kentucky on a report of a robbery.  At the scene they spoke with a 21-year-old pizza delivery driver who'd just been liberated of his vehicle at gun point.

The driver has just delivered a pizza and was southbound on Kentucky when a man with no shirt stood in the road blocking the vehicles path.  The driver stopped.  The assailant got into the passenger side of the vehicle.

Initially the man asked for a ride but when the driver refused things escalated.  Allegedly the carjacker began repeatedly punching the driver in the face while eventually producing a handgun. The driver fled the vehicle and the assailant departed in the car.

A short time later Amarillo police responded to a call of a hit-and-run accident in the area of 8th and South Pierce.  It was the pizza delivery driver's vehicle, a 2000 Oldsmobile.  The vehicle struck a construction barricade and came to rest in a dirt lot on the corner of the intersection.  The suspect had fled the scene.

Approximately an hour after finding the abandoned vehicle police responded to two separate calls of an intoxicated person knocking on doors and yelling about a gun in the 700 block of South Browning Street.

Shortly after Amarillo police found a man walking nearby that matched the description of both the carjacker and the intoxicated door knocker and took him into custody.

Adrian Baca, 31 was identified by the pizza delivery driver as the carjacker.  The gun used in the crime was not recovered.
