E-cig companies have been approaching area jails to gauge interest on allowing inmates access to the cigarette alternative.

It didn't take long for Potter and Randal County along with Panhandle to go on record saying they are not going to allow the devices in their jails, at least for now.

Other area jails are considering the option, both as a revenue generator and a way to keep inmates calm and compliant.

Randall County banned smoking tobacco in the 1980's when inmates were smuggling in drugs.  Ow with the tobacco cut off inmates put their smuggling focus on tobacco.  Since it's a policy violation but not illegal it is preferable to the two.
